This old-fashioned pie crust was my Mom's go-to recipe. It's easy to make and turns out every time. Recipe makes two crusts.

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1¼ cups vegetable shortening, such as Crisco
- pinch salt
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 5 tablespoons cold water
Cut the shortening into the flour. You can do this by hand using a pastry cutter or fork or pulse it a few times in a food processor.
Beat the egg slightly, then stir in the vinegar and a pinch of salt. Add this mixture to the flour mixture, followed by the ice water.
Mix gently until the dough comes together, then chill for at least 1 hour or overnight. Roll out on a lightly floured surface when ready to use.
