New York Sour Cocktail Recipe
New York Sour cocktail is a whiskey sour topped with a splash of red wine. Not only a delicious cocktail, it is also beautiful and festive.
I was a little skeptical about this cocktail at first. Something about combining red wine with a whiskey sour didn’t sound right to me, but it looks so beautiful. Well, the result surprised me; it tastes as good as it looks.
What You Need For This New York Sour Cocktail Recipe
The key ingredients are, of course, a good Bourbon, fresh lemon juice, maple syrup (or simple syrup, but the maple adds a nice flavor and isn’t too sweet), and a splash of dry red wine.
Step-By-Step How To
- Step 1: Add the Bourbon, lemon juice, and syrup to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake until very cold.
- Step 2: Strain into an ice-filled glass such as an Old Fashioned glass (leave a little room for the splash of wine).
- Step 3: Carefully pour the red wine over the back of a spoon that is positioned just above the drink. It should create a layer on the top of the red. Serve with a lemon twist.
Tips For Success
Tip 1 — Make sure to take it slow when you add the wine and use the back of a spoon to gently pour over the drink. Otherwise, you will not end up with a beautiful red layer on the surface.
Tip 2 — Sometimes one big ice cube looks best, in this case, I think a handful of smaller cubes helps keep the wine at the top.
