Apple Cider And Bourbon Fall Cocktail Recipe
The weather has turned, and everything is now fall, including my cocktails. Tonight, it’s an Apple Cider and Bourbon Fall Cocktail. This is a lighter cocktail with lots of apple flavor and hint of bourbon.
What You Need To Make An Apple Cider And Bourbon Cocktail
- Apple Cider Reduction: To make an apple cider reduction, put a cup or two of apple cider in a saucepan and reduce by half over medium heat. The reason you want to reduce the cider is to intensify the flavors. Allow it to cool completely. You can store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a few days.
- Bourbon: Look for a good quality bourbon, but you don’t have to go for the top of the line (I would not use those in a mixed drink; they are made for sipping straight).
- Pure Maple Syrup: You want pure maple, not pancake syrup. They are not the same; pure maple syrup is just that, pure, with no additives. Pancake syrup is merely corn syrup and has maple flavor added.
- Ginger Beer: You want ginger beer not ginger ale, they are not the same thing. Ginger beer is kind of like ginger ale’s spicier cousin, with a bit of a kick.
Step-By-Step Guide
- Step 1: Make your apple cider reduction, pour a cup or two of apple cider into a saucepan and cook over medium heat to reduce the liquid by half. This will take about 15 minutes or more.
- Step 2: Combine the cider reduction, bourbon, and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until very cold.
- Step 3: Strain mixture into an ice filled glass and top with chilled ginger beer.
- Step 4: Garnish with an apple wedge. (You can also coat the rim of the glass with cinnamon sugar before filling for an added touch).
The final step is to enjoy!
